Do I need dentures?

There are definite advantages to having replacement teeth compared to either leaving teeth missing or to having decaying teeth in your mouth.

  1. Dentures help keep facial muscles from sagging, which can make a person look older.
  1. You will be able to eat and speak – something people often take for granted until they begin to lose their natural teeth. If you have had problems with your natural teeth for some time, you may have already had problems eating foods you want.
  1. You will be able to smile confidently.

Not everyone will need dentures in their lifetime. But for those who do need them, dentures can make it possible to continue living an enjoyable life.

If you have missing or broken-down teeth, pain when you eat or difficulty chewing, come in today for a no-charge examination and consultation with Dr. Frank. He will completely examine your mouth, and help you work out a treatment plan to help you so that you can eat and smile comfortably again.

How Dr. Frank carefully fits your dentures

Tustin Dentures

Your treatment begins with a free examination and consultation with Dr. Frank.

Dr. Frank will begin with a free consultation, including a full oral examination, x-rays, and review of all of your options with you.  He will answer any questions you might have, and make sure that you are completely comfortable with the procedure. He will then go through a multi-step process, ensuring the best quality design and manufacture of your new dentures.

The first step is to take impressions of your existing teeth and, if necessary, of your gums. Dr. Frank uses special custom trays for taking impressions of gums.

Then the dental laboratory fabricates a wax rim to make a record of your bite.  This is used to ensure that your upper and lower jaws will come together comfortably once you are wearing your new dentures.

A wax model is then delivered so Dr. Frank can show you what your new teeth will look like.  Adjustments in shape, color and bite are made at this time.  Dr. Frank will be sure that you can eat and speak comfortably and confidently with no slippage or other embarrassment.

Only when everything is right are the dentures approved and made.
Once the dentures are delivered, Dr. Frank will do a final fitting and adjustments, ensuring that they fit just right and do not slip.  The delivery is not complete until you are 100% satisfied.

Orange Dentures

Types of Dentures

There are several main types of dentures for you to consider.

Complete or Full

Orange County Dentures Dentist

When most people think of dentures, they tend to picture complete dentures, which are full replacements for all of your teeth. This can be a full set of either upper or lower teeth, or a combined set for your entire mouth.

Complete dentures have to be properly fitted for optimum comfort and can last 5 to 10 years given proper care. These can typically be worn six months after tooth extraction, once your gums have had time to heal. Until then, one can use a set of immediate dentures.

Immediate dentures

Immediate dentures are put into place immediately after tooth extraction and are used as a temporary set while your bone and tissue stabilize following tooth extraction. There are a number of benefits to immediate dentures, although they may require adjustment periodically while your jaw heals into place.

Partials

Dentures in OC California

Partial dentures are designed to correct the gaps in your smile when only some of your teeth are missing.

Metal attachments anchor the dentures to your natural teeth.

Partial dentures maintain tooth alignment by preventing your remaining teeth from shifting.

Partial dentures can also help you prevent further tooth loss due to decay or gum disease.

Valplast® Wireless Dentures

Dentures for Senior People in Orange County California

Valplast® wireless dentures are removable partial dentures that function like custom-made appliances. Made from an unbreakable nylon resin, they are comfortable and lightweight, and because they are completely wireless they are appropriate if you are missing back teeth. Valplast® partials are also practically invisible, metal free and very comfortable.

Combination

Dr. Frank also does a combination denture which has a plastic hook with a metal backside. This denture gives you the strength of the metal with the aesthetic of the acrylic.

Overdentures

Beautiful Anaheim Dentures in Orange County

Overdentures can be full or partial dentures, and are secured to the roots of your own teeth.

This type of denture provides greater stabilization during chewing.

Overdentures can be more costly than complete dentures and usually require more appointments to get them properly fitted in place.

Implant-supported dentures

Over time, people can develop problems with dentures. They can become loose, painful or tend to slip or move around.

Dental Office Dentist providing Dentures

Dr. Frank can prevent these problems by creating a custom set of dentures for you that will stay put. They are attached to and supported by miniature dental implants (“mini-implants”).

Mini-implants are small, titanium posts that are secured directly to the jawbone. They are usually placed and fitted in just a couple of hours by Dr. Frank. The mini-implant posts are important for stabilization and result in pain-free, immovable dentures that can last a lifetime.

Dentures or dental implants?

Implants and Dentures in Orange County

Dental implants are artificial teeth permanently attached to your jawbone to replace one, many, or all of your teeth.

A dental implant can be thought of as an artificial root which is inserted into your jawbone. Once it has fully healed, a crown is placed on top to function as a normal tooth.

While dental implants can be superior to dentures in terms of function, they are significantly more expensive, and not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure.

When you come in for your free consultation with Dr. Frank, he will do a complete examination in order to determine what your options are for tooth replacement. Then he will explain them to you in detail so that you can choose the treatment that is right for you.

Whatever your needs, Dr. Frank will listen to your concerns and answer your questions.  He will discuss the pros and cons of using dental implants instead of dentures, and whether you are a candidate for dental implants.

Together you will decide the type of denture or implant that will work best for your mouth, your expectations and budget
